Frequently Asked Questions

What is Giving Day?

LSU alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff come together each year for LSU Giving Day, a day-long online “event” that engages LSU supporters in making contributions of $5 or more to the fund(s) they are most passionate about supporting. Giving Day celebrates the impact of philanthropy, raises awareness of the university’s opportunities and achievements, and provides a fun way for the LSU community to engage with each other through a bit of friendly competition.

Who can participate in LSU Giving Day?

Everyone—alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty, and staff—is invited to participate on March 27, 2024, from 12 a.m.-11:59 p.m. Central, by giving $5 or more in support of LSU.

How do I decide what fund to support?

No matter what your philanthropic passion is, there is something for everyone at LSU. Wherever you direct your support, your gift will impact people who are changing the world and will shape the future. Find your cause by exploring the Giving Day site pages here and make your gift to be counted on Giving Day!

How are gifts made?

Give here at givingday.lsu.edu! This site will keep track of gifts made to each campus, college, and unit; feature challenges to multiply the impact of your gifts; and provide real-time updates throughout the day.

Where can I see a list of all the Giving Day challenge gifts?

Thank you for maximizing your impact! The challenge gifts contributed by generous fellow LSU supporters can be viewed here and on the relevant college and unit pages.

What browsers support givingday.lsu.edu?

If you experience any technical difficulties on givingday.lsu.edu, please check that you are using the most updated version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Still encountering trouble? Please reach out to us at contact@lsufoundation.org or 225-578-3811 for day-of support.

What will my gift support?

It’s up to you! LSU Giving Day 2024 is focused on supporting scholarship, faculty, and strategic priority funds campus-wide, as well as high-priority funds for the LSU Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation. Whichever fund you choose to support, your gift will be part of how LSU reaches our incredible potential for impact.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Donations of $5 or more can be accepted on the Giving Day website. Every gift will make a difference. Thank you for giving what you can!

What types of gifts are accepted on LSU Giving Day?

Gifts made by credit card can be accepted through the secure Giving Day website. To make a gift on Giving Day by phone, please call 225-578-3811 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central.

Will my gift be tax-deductible?

Donations to the LSU Foundation, LSU Alumni Association, and Tiger Athletic Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for the tax-deductible amount of your gift from the organization you supported.

I plan to/have donated before March 27, 2024. Will my gift count towards LSU Giving Day?

Thank you for supporting LSU! If you choose to give through our Giving Day mailing or ‘give early’ email, your gift will be counted – thank you! All gifts made through that outreach and on March 27 will be counted for LSU Giving Day.

Is the donor number on the LSU Giving Day platform accurate?

The donor counter displayed at givingday.lsu.edu automatically displays individual donors who have given through the LSU Giving Day platform on March 27, plus those who have given through the Giving Day direct mail piece or give early email and donors who committed challenge gifts. Additional gifts, such as those received via telephone or on our main giving site, must be added to the platform manually. It also takes time to give full credit to households with two LSU supporters. (For example, when a married couple makes a gift, they count as two donors.) For these reasons, you will notice a jump in the donor number after LSU Giving Day wraps.

What else can I do to be part of LSU Giving Day?

Promote LSU Giving Day on social media! You can share how you think LSU is taking bold steps forward with a post using the hashtag #LSUGivingDay. Please set your post to public so that we can see it and share it. To volunteer as a social media ambassador or submit content in advance of LSU Giving Day, please email Mary Julia Klug, annual giving strategist, at mklug@lsufoundation.org.
