Why Your Support Matters

Communication is our passion — and it shows. At the Manship School of Mass Communication, students find a dynamic place to build the skills they need to become creative thinkers and leaders in media and public affairs. Because of our supporters, we can provide our students with dynamic opportunities to blaze their own trails.

  • Last year, Mel Bridges, a broadcast journalism senior, earned a finalist award in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program's Audio News/Features Competition, marking KLSU’s first Hearst award win. And Lizzie Falcetti, a junior studying journalism, was recognized for her outstanding sports writing, tying for 14th place in the Hearst Sports Writing Competition.
  • In the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) 2024 competitions, Tiger TV earned a national Mark of Excellence Award in Television In-Depth Reporting, in addition to regional wins and finalist awards from Tiger TV, the Reveille, KLSU, the Manship Statehouse Bureau and the LSU Cold Case Project.
  • In July, we launched The Olympics Project, a study abroad program where 25 students traveled to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games. The Olympics Project coursework and experiential learning taught our students how to produce written, visual and digital stories about people, places, food, culture and history through an immersive experience in Marseille, Lyon and Paris, during the Paris Olympic Games. They were part of history in the making, and we are so proud to have offered this unparalleled experience.

This LSU Giving Day, your gift will strengthen the winning teams that drive the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication forward. Thank you for your support!

Impact Areas

Your generosity on LSU Giving Day impacts the following priority initiative:

1. Manship Excellence Fund

Because of you, our students have access to experiential learning opportunities. In November, our digital advertising students traveled to New York for the American Advertising Federation’s national conference, where they learned the latest trends and networked with seasoned professionals. In August, our journalism students traveled to the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago, where they immersed themselves in innovative journalism practices. Gifts to our Excellence Fund support these key opportunities.
